Project: The Bowles Story At Myddelton House
Bolt & Heeks were appointed to carry out various projects to three outbuildings within the grounds of Myddelton House; the outbuildings, like the main house, are all Grade II listed and are at the heart of the Cottage Garden, which is to be open to the public for the first time. All works are being undertaken under the aegis of English Heritage and part-funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund. The gardens were fully open to the public during the works, and our Site Manager held two Saturday morning tours of the site for members of the public interested in the project.
-
Alteration of the existing coach house and adjoining annex along with the formation of a new small rear extension to provide a new reception, visitor centre and cafe.
-
Reconstruction of the Peach House plus renovation and restoration of cold frames within the garden.
-
Full restoration of the potting shed to form accommodation for the gardeners, together with associated works to take up, clean and re-lay the original tile path around the potting shed.
-
M&E works, which includes the formation of toilets and associated drainage works; installation of a boiler and heating, inclusive of underfloor heating and ground source heat pump to the Carriage House/visitor centre.
-
We are re-using all materials on site; for instance, part of the Peach House wall had to be demolished as it was structurally unsound. We have carefully dismantled the wall and will be re-using the bricks in the new wall. Any that are damaged will be used as hardcore on site and replaced with reclaimed bricks of a similar nature to maintain the wall’s character.
"It has been a pleasure to work with you and see the plans coming together over the past two years on time and budget. The finished job exceeds expectations and is a centre to be very proud of."
