The works involved the construction of a new 1200 m2 extension to the existing nursery unit together with refurbishment works to the main school, including the creation and fit-out of a new 88m2 kitchen to cater for 1,000 pupils.
The school was in occupation throughout the contract and so we developed close liaison procedures with the school in order to minimise disruption to the school’s working day; consequently, we scheduled all noisy and disruptive works to take place outside term time.
In order to keep pupils, staff, parents and the local community up-to-date on the project’s progress, we set up a MySpace blog which the Site Manager regularly updated with photographs and brief reports, which proved very popular.
